Thanks for the explanation Mark...

So assuming all cars are on maximum down-force setup and all the cars are able to generate a similar amount of down-force the difference will be amount of mechanical grip the car can generate and of course the skill of the individual drivers...

so who do you think has the advantage? McL or Ferrari?

Mark are you a professional racing driver? I ask because I would like to know the source of you expertise concerning the setup of a race car.

Remember that excessive down-force = slower straight line speed... this is the law of physics. So I would have thought that to be faster than your competitors you have to have a good balance between down-force and speed... just like setting up a race car for any race, the driver has to find the "right" balance.

So why is setting up a car for one type of circuit less of a skill than setting up a car for another type of circuit as you are suggesting?

Mark I actually agree with your last post. I don't believe that McL made FA feel "unwelcome" or didn't support him I just think the issue was that FA expected "special" treatment and he didn't get it.

My second paragraph wasn't directed at you btw mark but some accuse LH of having a "silver spoon" which I find incredible. How can a boy who's father has to work two jobs to support his sons dream, who has to battle against racism and prejudice be accused of having a silver spoon. It's utter rubbish. These people have their own agenda's and chose to ignore the facts of the situation.

I can tell you for a fact that in the past before the single tyre supplier regs companies DID develop tyres for individual drivers to take into account their driving style. Those days are gone now and we have a "standard" common tyre design that is issued to all the teams. So it is quite feasible that a driver may find that his driving style puts demands on a tyre approaching or even exceeding its designed operating limits. It's no criticism of the driver but a fact of the present F1 regs. The only thing the driver can do is adjust his driving style but if he is only forced to compromise his race strategy in 1 race out of 18 or so why should he change?

Mark, why do you feel that McL had to make FA feel "special"? Why couldn't he just be part of the team like everyone else and get on with the job he was paid to do? Prima-Donna???

And now we are criticising Ron for spotting a young talented driver and sponsoring his development?? I would have thought that was a skill, spotting young talent but apparently not! Apparently he should have missed the talented driver and allowed him to join a less successful team, in which he would struggle for a season or so but show loads of potential before he paid millions to bring him to McL. Just like the guy who turned down the Beatles when they sent him their demo tape!

Ridiculous reasoning.

Bridgestone "made" them do 3 stops or "advised" them to make 3 stops is just semantics. He may have used the wrong word, none of us have perfect english after all. The facts are that taking their advice into account they decided to 3 stop. Don't be so precious richard.

If LH really thinks that McL are the best then he's in dreamland. Ferrari are the best on the grid and I think 99% of people in the sport would agree. McL may have closed the gap a little but to claim that they may have won the race isn't being realistic. Massa had it in the bag all weekend barring any mechanical failures.

I think he's trying to keep the team motivated with his comments and fair play to him for that.

super race... again!

WSBK once again shows it's the best spectator motor sport in the world. F1, which I love, is so boring by comparrision.

Nori was brilliant, he never gave up and I loved it at the end when he was sharing his little sons drink in victory lane, nice touch. He seems a great guy, hard racer and family man, I wish him all the best for the rest of the season.

A female in F1 would be good but I don't think Danica is the right person.

She's not dominating the IRL so she's not the best in her class, and F1 has a long list of failed American series drivers.

A sport which is based 90% on oval racing isn't going to produce drivers suited to european racing on "street" style circuits. Where do you learn the art of breaking, setting up a car for left and right handed corners when you've come from a background of modulating the throttle and slip streaming around ovals for 200 miles per race???

If she was dominating IRL she may have a slim chance but for her to get a F1 drive ahead of someone like Davidson would just be a publicity stunt.

What are you talking about Ricky Bobby???

Please explain how being happy with your performance is arrogance? Do you actually understand the meaning of the word? I'm sure Massa was also happy with his performance, is that arrogant too? RK was probably happy with his race too today because he wasn't expected to finish any higher and did a fine job with the equipment he had. Is he arrogant for feeling he did the best job he could for the team??

For pete's sake!

err... let's stick to facts shall we and not get into an "if's and buts" debate... if my uncle was a woman he'd be my auntie!!!

On the occasion in question LH passed Kimi, Kimi was taken by suprise, it was a clean overtake and nobody got taken out.

But I did love the "bad neck muscles" excuse Adrian... classic. From what I remember at the time Kimi admitted that he just didn't expect the pass at that place on the track.

Overtaking is always a risk and i cant believe people calling a driver "reckless" for trying to gain a position during a race. I cant remember LH taking anyone "off" during an overtaking maneuver unlike some I could mention like DC.

I think FA and LH are probably the best on the grid at overtaking which is a skill not many drivers seem to have, schumi was the best i've seen at it. I would like to see more of it, it's what makes the races exciting... roll on next season when the racing will hopefully be a lot closer with easier overtaking.

No way richard... if kimi could have challenged for the lead he would have done so and massa wouldn't have risked losing the race at any cost.

On this track massa had the beating of everyone all weekend and credit to him he showed it on race day also.

Garry I agree with you... as a spectacle WSBK and MotoGP surpass F1 at the moment. I'm just looking forward to next season when I pray the new regulations will mean closer racing in F1 and a return to the exciting racing I remember when I first became a fan of F1 all those years ago.

It turns out the strategy was chosen on the advice of Bridgestone. I hope you will now congratulate LH Tealeaf for beating Kimi to 2nd place. The young man deserves a bit of credit for his performance today.
