An investigation has seemingly been launched after the cover was blown on the radical new ‘hole nose' on Ferrari's F2008 ten weeks prior to its testing debut in Barcelona this week.
just wait and see who will be the first team to produce a similar nose. no doubt some team will try to have this vented nose outlawed.it will probably be very effective in 2009 when aero add-ons are severly restricted. this is not an add-on.
Here we go again!!! Think Ferrari F1 should do an employee satisfaction survey cause it seems there are a few people determined to screw over their bosses. Suppose it does give the FIA anothe way to reap in another $100 million...wonder who will have a similar style nose??? BMW look promising to me, quite wealthy and showing signs of being able to compete against Ferra for GP wins...they must be prime suspects

6 people agree.
If someone or team stole Ferrari technology it's fitting they get punished. Ferrari spends a lot of money for R&D and they should benefit from whatever they create. After all this is not a non profit organization and please set aside all notions that technology is to be shared.

Here we go again.....
Technology has always been shared in F1, whether by fair means or foul. If a team comes out with a new aero package all the others look at it and incorporate some of it if they can use it to good effect. Remember those silly wings on either side of the airbox? McLaren using Ferrari's front wheel covers?....there are so many examples it's not worth going through them all. External stuff will always get copied quickly. It is most certainly unfortunate that it's out there a long long time before it was due to be used though! Munro, tongue in cheek or not, there must be something wrong with Ferrari's terms and conditions for employees
copying after the fact is fair game but stealing the information and using it is totally wrong.

Personally, I find most horrific nose leaks quickly sorted by judicious application of a tissue.
More seriously, Ferrari seems to leak like a colander. Only two theories here - either there are still rogue elements within the team, or this is a deliberate leak by Ferrari as source material for a discrediting later. A wild theory, yes, but Aldo Costa says only a very few people knew it existed, and that would be too big a risk for most casual spies. Either way, there are questions here for spygate.

Robsy clearly feasible but why give up an advantage just to spite another team which may or may not use that technology even after what had transpired in the spy scandal last year. Why would another team take such a bait?

Makes a bit of a mockery of the hole 'spy scandal' as it doesn't seem too difficult to 'spy' on Ferrari. All you have to do is read a news paper! Or maybe it's another deliberate leak, not sure. But before they cry foul they should get things sorted in-house first and stop the leaks.

When I first read it I thought that one of their drivers had a runny nose and was filling up his helmet ;0)
but it probably will turn out to be yet another boring spying story........

Tech being shared post-release is always going to happen.... Ferrari's rear diffusers, their exhaust vent philosophy, Mclaren's viking horns, Mclaren chassis design cues (from the Newey days).... these are just a few things that have conveniently found there way onto other cars. I remember one article that was published a few years ago that showed how the Jag was basically a poor copy of the Mclaren.
And now, at Barca, Renault has copied Red Bull's shark fin, Honda has copied those revolting little winglets on BMW's nose (and turned them into what look like bunny ears).
Ghost, i see your point, but you are missing the point with that one.
To have the exact designs and details is stealing. To look at a car and say "wow that looks like it could be an advantage LETS MAKE OUR OWN" is completely different.
EG With the Red Bull and Renault wings:
Red Bulls design is their property, and the one made by Renault is Renault's property. Copying is fair game, as Renault have researched and developed their own wing.
If Renault were to get hold of the Red Bull designs and use them, that would be cheating.
What are you on about George!? I saw Ferrari aftershave in boots the other day, do the profits go to charity?
I really do wonder where motorsport would be right now if it were not for innovation and espionage. Would all the cars have 4 wheels? Would they have downforce? Would all the cars be rear engined, rear wheel driven?
F1 is entering a dark age of IP and court cases.

I'd like to see a pic of this new nose - It's conjuring up visions of Phil Hill in the 61' Shark-nose Ferrari for me - Can't wait to see it!

Let's blame Lewis Hamilton!
All jokes aside, that is a little disturbing if the leak is as high-placed as the Scuderia would suggest. One has to wonder who else knew if the paper found out well ahead of time. On the other hand, "Ferrari might be testing a new nose design sometime this year" is a far cry from having blueprints and test results.

Andy re-read the post it is a double negative, "not a non profit".
I don't see how I'm missing the point - I think you've misunderstood what I was saying.... note that i used the phrase 'post-release', to convey that once something is released in an open environment (testing / race) then it's open season as far as other teams are concerned. There's absolutely nothing illegal about that.
You've basically agreed in your post with pretty much everything I was saying ....
I lay a wager that the "vented nose" will find its way onto lulu's beak. That will make his head more aerodynamic after Merc's plastic surgeon puts on the finishing touches. They will just need to tune it up in the wind tunnel. Not sure what that will do to lulu's elegant profile.

F1 has track test restrictions but allows wind tunnels to operate 24x7. To make F1 more competitive maybe wind tunnel hours could be restricted along with pending aero changes?

Andy did I say Ferrari was a non profit organisation? why don't you go back and re-read my post, maybe you'll understand it on the next time around.
