Lewis: I didn't have to prove anything.

Lewis: I didn't have to prove anything.

Briton delighted to be back on podium, highlights start as key to result.

8 people agree.  3 people disagree.

While it is understandable that the Mclaren sponsors require their pound of flesh, the over exposure of Lewis is now destroying his brand, which in turn means less recognition of these sponsors.
While some think there is no such thing as bad or too much PR, they have forgotten we glaze over and miss the whole story.
Time to Lewis get on with keeping his head down and working for the results that matter.

Lulu - say it ain't tru. Say that your fancy Monaco address and pretty chicks are not all that matters. Say that you are driving because you really like DC, and I guess you fancy my buns.

He's a star my butt.
It takes more that a choke and an auto-biography to be a star.

Touch of the "green eyed monster" there Kim?

Whats up Lexington Steel, LH haters? don't you like people speaking there mind?

Or are you one of these who can't stand people talking about the love of your life this way.

Get over it, different people have different opinions.

Kim is right, it takes more than he has done to be a star.

Kim...
I think I'm fair and I always give credit where it's due. I'm not really a LH fan in fact to be honest I don't prefer any particular driver over any other. I dislike FA as a person due to his conduct at times but still have a lot of respect for him as a F1 driver. I am a Ferrari fan truth be told because I've worked with them and they're a class organisation.

I love the banter and debate on here and I enjoy people expressing different opinions Kim as long as those opinions are based on FACT or have some justification.

He would have qualified higher up, but all 4 of the drivers in front of him on the grid were on lighter fuel loads.

(btw i am not really a lewis hamilton fan)

He is a media made star and that is the problem. The Hamilton brand is rammed down our throats at every oportunity.
ITVs coverage on Sunday was joke come the post podium interviews. It was timed so that when we got to the interviews, it was LH's time to speak. Not every British viewer is a Lewis fan. And even if we were, dont ITV think that we deserve to see all three drivers views and comments on the race.
Roll on 2009 and BBC coverage.

I'm not a LH hater but you alreadey decided that I am just becasue I expressed my view. Judging from responses here LH has not achieved the level of admiration or respect by his own achievement like a true star would have, but rather media hype drilled into peoples desperate mind for a British WDC. Why arent there so many Kimi haters? becasue he has our respect by just getting on with it. MSC, Alonso, Mika they made their mark first before deciding whether to become a primadonna or not , not the other way round. An auto-bio at 22? gimmi a break!

For me a true star is one that has has my respect regardless of whether i love or hate him... but I decide that and not the media.

Although I'm a Hamilton fan I do agree that releasing an autobiography at 22 is a joke.

So many people seem to be doing it now... can't somebody impose a minimum age on people bringing out autobiographies?!?

yep I agree publishing an auto-biography at such an early age is a bit of a joke. You have to bare in mind that McL signed him up at the age of 10, he was in karts for years and paid his dues before doing GP2 and had success there. It's his good fortune that the team that signed him all those years ago are one of the most successful teams currently in F1, you can't really blame him for that?

The TV coverage of the post race conference was a joke. I would have liked to hear Kimmi and Massa's thoughts on the race and I can't argue that the British TV coverage is biased towards LH. I remember we had the same when Button came on the scene. But you know the Brit press build you to tear you down.

Rob,
I beg to differ with your assessment. Lulu was .04 of a second slower then Massa who placed in third. If you adapt for the fuel loads they were carrying, Hamilton had two laps more fuel then Massa which translates to 0.15s, so he did better than FM. However, he was on the same race strategy as RK, who pitted on the same lap as lulu for both 1st and 2nd stint. That means RK was a shade faster in qualifying then both Massa and Hamilton. Now that leaves Alonso who was indeed was lighter, but Kimi was heavier then both RK and lulu.

I have never been sure exactly what a 'star' really is but as a starting point, winning more GP's than the overwhelming majority of drivers will ever do in their whole careers in his debut year is one factor I suppose? Earning a huge amount of money and living in a wonderful part of the world could be another? Having large numbers of fans around the world a third? The main reason for him being considered by many as a 'star' is that he gets his own fan club here on crash.net!!!! The main reason for so many unauthorised biographies being released at the end of '07 was also another reason with loads of journalists and publishers hoping to earn money from his talents.Get real Hammy haters!!!!

He hasn't had proper time to learn how to handle the attention, that's all. Drivers like Kimi, Jenson, Rosberg etc came to F1 and stirred some interest by doing well in the midfield, whereas Hamz went straight to the top. At the moment it seems it's a bit like "people want Lewis, so I must give them Lewis", if you know what I mean. Once he gets used to the circus you'll come to like him.

For me he earned his respect in GP2, his first season in F1 was a bit shady. It's hard to judge just how good he was because of all the controversy around the team & drivers last year...

Agree on the autobiography, but is it authorised or not? If isn't then he's really not to blame.
