Jean Todt is being lined up to replace Max Mosley when the current President of the FIA either steps, or is forced, down – that is the overwhelming view in the Formula 1 paddock as the latter's D-Day is now less than five weeks away.
Horrible idea. And for crying out loud, the man is 67 years old!

This is the worst idea ever and if it happens he should be allowed no part in the F1 because FIA will go from favouring Ferrari to being run by Ferrari and if they put Todt in charge it will be the biggest load of bs of the last 8 years.

No, Todt has just had his 60th birthday.
Apparently the clubs would all like to have Todt if Mosley goes but the F1 Paddock would not. But the clubs are said to be overwhelmingly for Mosley to stay. And it's the clubs who vote, not the F1 people.
But what about 2009?

Todt is 60 not 67.
Apparently the clubs all like him but the F1 paddock dread the idea. But the clubs are said to be overwhelmingly in favour of MM staying - and they, not F1, have the votes.
Todt could be a real danger in 2009, though.

This would be the end of F1 if Todt gets the position.Surely the person should have no direct links to any current F1 team & therefore totally neutral in any decision making. He is still a Ferrari employee now isn't he? Correct me if i am wrong but Mosley & his predecessor Balestre had no direct links to any one team.

The fact that Todt, Montezemolo and Schumacher of Ferrari are about the only people from the F1 teams (or indeed from anywhere) who have said anything supportive of Mosley indicates how extremely and unhealthily close the relationship between Mosley and Ferrari is. The relationship would be even closer and more unhealthy if Todt succeeded Mosley which is why it would be a very sad day for F1 if Todt was to succeed Mosley, though it is clear that Todt would be Mosley's choice which is reason enough to oppose him. The President of the FIA must obviously be both unbiased and SEEN to be unbiased in favour of any team.

...so that the favourisation of Ferrari can't continue....? I would like to see Mark Webber as the next president, or perhaps DC.

Conflick of interest much?
I don't care if he'd be a great president or not. The fact that he is to recently removed from the Ferrari paddock and is Ferrari's CEO to not appear to make Max's favouritsm look liek nothing.
Todt should stay at Ferrari and the job should go to Paul Stoddard. FIA meetings would get very interesting!!!!!!!

I forecast this month's ago - when Todt stood down, and before Max's pants came down!
Seriously though, if the FIA is to been seen as an impartial guardian of Motor Sport, it should only seek to elect a neutral expert to its highest office. Even if JT makes every effort at fairness (which I doubt) any future pro-Ferrari ruling by him would be seen as favouritism.
What about Martin Brundle?... a seasoned expert, with a full knowledge of Motor Sport in general, and more than able to conduct himself in a manner commensurate with the role on the World stage....

Sorry, my bad. Ok, the age is not as much an issue then but I agree that it is problematic, especially with Max' comments about Ferrari. Todt no longer works for them so he's free to apply I guess, but it does NOT look good. They should look here and elsewhere for the people's opinions - noone really believes Todt would be neutral.
Why don't they just promote someone from within their own organisation? Why does it have to be someone from the F1 paddock? I'm sure there are plenty of good men and women sitting on important positions in the FIA clubs and quietly doing their jobs very well. That's where they should look in my opinion.

I actually don't think Todt would, if he were FIA president, be biased towards Ferrari because I think he's an honourable man... But the problem would be the perception of bias by people involved in F1 and for that reason he shouldn't be elected president.
Maybe the FIA should look outside the world of car based motorsport. They would bring a new perspective and fresh ideas that I think F1 in particular needs to grow and develope in the future.
Max Mosely - Fascist dictator supporter (Hitler & Mussolini)
Jean Todt - Just happens to have run Ferrari an Italian company from a country once run by a fascist dictator, (the past), yet still has 7% of it's GDP funded by the MAFIA!!! (present).
Yea, great idea F1.....

very bad idea to have todt as the president of fia. he's way too much involved with ferrari, i say bring forward someone from a more neutral standing ground

J.T. yeah then we could paint all the cars red and call them ferrari...no wonder j.t. called m.m.a gentleman,I bet ferrari are rubbing their hands together, saying that though they've been running f1 for years......
I don't think it would be a problem. Obviously if he did anything to unfairly benefit Ferrari everyone would cry foul and his position would be compromised.
If anything he would probably try to avoid doing anything that would benefit Ferrari so no one would claim it as favoritism.

how does the song go?,meet the new boss the same as the old boss.
Todt is 62 (b.feb-46), cut in half you'll find 'Ferrari' running through him.
What the FIA requires is someone from outside the motor-sport world to ensure transparency, impartiality and stability. Although Todt has done wonders with Ferrari, he has too much baggage for the FIA to seriously expect objectivity if elected.
Furthermore as the preferred successor and groomed by Mosley who's judgement in so many areas has already been demonstrated to be flawed, why should it be relied upon now.

no matter who is elected, there will be dissention by the posters on crash.net. but i think frontrunners suggestion of webber or DC is the most absurd suggestion ever. but thinking back, wasnt mosley involved in a team at one time, was it march or brabham? todt would actually be a good choice, as long as he leaves ferrari. he is one of the few (if any) who has experience of racing and rallying. maybe ken livingstone would be a good choice. he has experience of solving trafic jams!
