Weigl: Customer car row no excuse.

Honda F1 boss Fry to blame for end of Super Aguri, claims potential rescuer.

This Weigl guy gets a lot of free advertisement with this stuff, while there are no credible reports that his very small company had a good plan or the money to "save" this team. A bit fishy.

Edit: Well, after looking at their website the only thing I see is a turnover of 130 million euro. No talk about profit, but a lot of talk about mergers and take-overs. So they are spending a lot of cash. The 200 million euro turnover I have read about is simply an expectation for 2008, nothing final and no indicator at all for their ability to support a F1 team. I still think it is a small company.

Weigl is not a small company - any research will show that. This looks like it was a serious bid, scuppered by Nick (small) Fry just because his buddy Martin Leach failed to come up with the proper funds.

I bet we have not heard the last of this.

Have seen these sorts of deals before, & the news that Fry was involved with the Magma offer now makes much more sense.

A few years back Virgin Airlines was about to buy a small struggling local carrier, then a buyer with more money appeared on the scene, & the sale progressed slowly until at the last minute the buyer also backed out. At this point it was too late for Virgin to enter back into the picture & the airline went bankrupt.
Afterwards it was discovered that the other offer was never a serious one, but a move by a rival airline to intentionally prevent the legitimate sale & bankrupt their competition.

Seems Nick Fry had an agenda & was never really trying to help, quite opposite!

dice, quite plausible. when the magma deal was announced, i did not know who they were, but when leach's name was mentioned, it was obvious, given his performance with ford, that this was not a serious offer. it is a pity that aguri were conned. as bernie has ultimate control over what team is or is not allowed, maybe he should have a quiet word with honda about fry's role in all this, and bear in mind his previous plans to create a super team (not honda)

Just another example of politics and corruption in F1. Now there are only 10 teams left, with doubt over STR's future as well. It will revert to the major manufacturers and maybe a stubborn outsider in Williams. What will be left is 7 or 8 teams as Renault could call it a day and so could Force India. A dismal prospect indeed but one that could have been forecast some time ago as F1 and the FIA are doing everything they can to mismanage the sport. Spying, sex scandal, dirty deals by upper management, it's all in a days work for F1.

Watch out - Fry might be offered up as an alternative to Todt when we're finally shot of Herr Moseley. Lets face it, he's hardly kept busy at Honda now they have Ross Brawn running the racing, they still don't have a title sponsor and he's obviosuly got enough time on his hands to go making shady deals to kill off a rival.

Devil or the deep blue sea anyone?

Personally I can't wait until the last vestiges of the so called "customer car" are completely gone from F1. It was a very bad mistake to start down that road and I am thrilled that sanity is prevailing! Let's keep F1 a CONSTRUCTOR racing series forever!
