Ross Brawn has admitted that Fernando Alonso is on Honda's Formula 1 shopping list for 2009 – but he insists that first, ‘the situation with Ferrari must be resolved'.
Ross is wrong. Honda have to prove they are able to build a car that is a world beater. In the last 3 seasons they have gone backwards, with the same driver, unless JB is just riding now and having fun with all the glitter. I have lots of faith in Ross, but can Honda deliver, I think not.
I think people rate Alonso too highly. He is a a great driver no doubt, you dont win world championships without talent, but I think mentally he is somwhat immature, and breaks down unless he's given special treatment, or pressured by a quick teammate. I wouldnt be surprised at all if he's 'stuffed' a few races this year to make sure renault dont finish high enough to meet his contract demands. Something to that effect has already been said by at least one renault team member.
I remember at the end of 2006 Briatore saying 'he's a great driver, but not that great'. His exact words.

ray, i agree. honda should cut their losses and close shop, acting only as an engine supplier. let some other hopeful team have a shot at the club instead. few could hardly do a worse job than honda at pesent!
I Think when honda (and their drivers) are involved around here, people tend to forget just how much a car can make a difference, look at Michael Schumacher in 2005, he only won one race, against 2 jordans and 2 minardis.
i think the same is with Honda, just its lasting longer, and is a much bigger drop off, (keeping in mind they dropped from a lower place too). both button and barrichello could still pull out good results if they had a competitive car, so i thinks its very unfair how people disregard their skill, saying how their not focused blah blah. Button for instance, you see him drive and its all very smooth and precise as it was 4 years ago.
In a sense it's good to see a team principle actually saying what they must all believe (including McLaren), which is FA is the best there is. I wouldn't be too surprised if even McLaren were to swallow a whole lot of humble pie and ask him back.

@Triumph
That maybe true but I believe that either way if Kimi or Massa stay at Ferrari and Nico or Robert K go there you'd see red for next few years anyway.

Too much is being made of Kimi retiring: he's said nothing to substantiate that he is leaving at the end of this season.

End of the day Fernando is a double world champion and fair play to him! But to be champ again, he needs to get a drive thats a championship winning car/team from the word go! Its all very well Honda wanting him, and who would not? Fernando needs a winning car from the moment he sits init, not develope a car for a season or two. as that could prove to be a few years wasted. But with Ross Brawn over looking things, he can do wonders! But in all cases it all takes time or a big rule change to favour different teams. Look at Toyota this season from last season for example! Either way, i do hope Fernando Gets a drive worthy of his talents! As he can be a world a triple world champ plus.

interesting to read Ross Brawns comments on Fernando nearly everyone who has worked with him speak very highly of him I felt so sorry for him last year as he got all the bad publicity at Mc Laren but surely this year Lewis Hamilton has proved he is not Mr nice guy so now perhaps people will not be so quick to judge Fernando

carole moore well said there! I totally agree with you! I am a Lewis fan, but a fan of Fernando aswell. Lewis is going to lose fans the way he carries on. Fernando is just concentrating on his job and says the right things and does not stir up a hornets nest. On another note, i live 4 miles away from Oxford (uk) and when fernando was in Renault the first time, even when he was champ he used to walk around oxford on his own or with friends and he liked it there because no one annoyed him or recognised him, even if most pepole did recognise him they left him alone or just said hi. But not sure if he is back in the oxford area at the moment. If i met him i say hi and all the best!
Probably true, however as an ex-McLaren fan I simply want FA to fulfil his potential and for that he requires a competitive car. Not necessarily the best car but one he could replicate his WDC seasons beating MS in what was not the best car on the grid.
