BMW have confirmed they are in talks with Troy Corser about filling the one remaining seat in their World Superbike team for 2009, but insisted no deal has been sealed yet.
BMW need the bike to be developed and Corser is the man for the job. There is no one else comes close.

I'm not a big WSBK fan but if I could view the races that would almost definitely change. Can someone tell me where BMW fit into the teams pecking order? Corser has had a lot of success, what would be his motivation for going to BMW?

1 people agree.
Lots of money nearing retirement would be his motivation.
Personally I think BMW will fight for podiums from the off, long time since a big money team has come into the series!

I agree that Corser would be a good choice, but they also need a bike to race! as far as I know BMW dont make a 1000cc 4cyl bike,(or do they) WSB has to be based on production bikes, they will have to develop a sports based racer from scratch, a suprising move in the present economic climate.

Johnny u can view the races on worldsbk.com - not sure it works in the us though
@tommo, the bike is there. It has been displayed on the net already.

Thanks Retro, I must keep up with the times! still, bike sales are going down every year, more dealers going out of business, maybe BMW are trying the Ducati way "race on sunday, sell on monday" anyway it must be good to have as many makes as possible racing in WSBK.

WSBK is in rude health tbh, plenty of new bikes coming onto the grid for next year and the year beyond, something the GP boys would love to see. I reckon Corser and BMW will be on it although podiums right away may be pushing it somewhat, i've no doubt however that they will be successful and they'll be up there almost immediately. This year great.....next year hopefully even better
Tommo, the present climate is not good as you say. But if you look at some stats you will find that BMW are in fact the largest growing bike manufacturer in the world. Not on Honda's level of yearly units, but nevertheless, still growing. The best selling bike in the UK last year was the R1200GS, and the 3rd best selling bike was the R1200 GS Adventurer. So where are the sports bikes? They are being traded in for bikes like the R1200GS and the stats prove it!

well said, and the bmw s are distinct bikes too - no direct competition from japan
BMW bikes are definitely stepping up in terms of their sporty characteristics as well. Check out for example the HP2 Sport. That is one hot bike! And plenty capable as well! Couple MV Agusta owners I know have ridden it and are calling it the nicest handling bike they have ever ridden!

Thanks Kev87 and Chuchu, now I realise BMW are not yet a part of the series. I hadn't heard the news they'd join and never remember hearing of them part of it..should've known something was up! I'd better check out wordsbk.com!

i think the first thing that comes to mind in corsers head is remembering his foggy/petronas days...new team..he's only getting older..his best bet is to stay on the Yamaha.

not a bad looking bike, and if they throw their F1 technology at it then watch out! www.autoblog.com/2008/04/17/officially-official-bmw-s-1000-rr-race-bike/

They will throw money at this project until its top three. Then they will sign Neukerchner, stick some panniers on it and make him wear one of them helmets that lift up at the chin bar with an intercom in it. Seriously we need this competition to put the wind up the italians.

if corser goes, who will replace him at yamaha? it's a factory team so will be in high demand. there is an australian called stauffer that looked very good at laguna last year in the ama series on a privateer yamaha. also, west could lose kawasaki ride. he seems to suit superbikes.

Obtaining Corser would be a great move for a new factory team like BMW. But other than the factor of more money I'm not sure why Corser would make the jump when he's finally starting to make strides on the Yamaha. Plus there is the factor of learning a new team and developing an untested (race wise) bike which I'm sure he'll consider.

apparently elias is rumoured to have been offered a contract to partner nori next year, and another rumour is that ktm have approached fGsport about a production 125/250 championship to spite dorna about the 250 replacement class
