Montreal win puts title within reach for Seb.

Monday, 28th August 2006

Sebastien Bourdais took a major stride towards the 2006 Champ Car World Series title with a commanding win in Monday's delayed Grand Prix of Montreal.

Sebastien Bourdais took a major stride towards the 2006 Champ Car World Series title with a commanding win in Monday's delayed Grand Prix of Montreal.

Bourdais took the chequered flag first in the 67-lap race after controlling the field for much of the duration, his task made easier by an early mechanical problem for AJ Allmendinger and an uncharacteristic mistake from Justin Wilson.

Allmendinger, who started the restarted race from first place, retired after 14 laps with a driveshaft failure, handing Bourdais a lead he wouldn't relinquish, while Wilson smacked Montreal's ‘Champions Wall' on lap 48 while he was on a recovery drive following a pit lane infringement.

The retirements of Allmendinger and Wilson coupled with Bourdais win leaves the Frenchman with a 62-point lead at the head of the standings with three races remaining.

Paul Tracy finished second followed by Nelson Philippe, who survived an early race off-track excursion, Dan Clarke and Will Power.

Katherine Legge was able to take the restart even though she crashed out of Sunday's first leg and finished 13th.
