"What a nice car to drive," he admitted afterwards, "It's a lot different compared to the Mazda - driving the Atlantic car is like driving a big boat, but it's a lot faster and more stable. In the first run, I was slower, but took more time to learn the car and, once I got used to the power, I was fast."
Morgado, at 27, was the oldest driver to sample the Walker/Team Australia, the former two-time Rotax Max world kart champion having only recently completed his rookie season in British F3. He spent the early part of the day learning and adjusting to the car, but progressed nicely throughout the afternoon.
Hoping to net back-to-back titles, Walker has said that it is looking to expand its current two-car operation and sign multi-year contracts to build lasting relationships with its drivers. Another series of tests is due to follow in the next few weeks, before the 2007 line-up will be confirmed.
"We are currently testing a number of interested drivers," team owner Derrick Walker confirmed, "The team looks forward to the 2007 season as we plan to expand the Atlantic programme."
