Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and A1 Team USA may expand their working relationship beyond an annual tie-up at the Indianapolis 500, according to the latter's Rick Weidinger.
Speaking at a press conference held by Dreyer & Reinbold on the eve of Carb Day, Weidinger let slip that the two parties were working closely on a possible programme of events for both this year and beyond.
"There are a couple of things, and I hope Dennis [Reinbold] doesn't mind me talking about this," he said, "We have actually sat down and talked about a couple of things. One is A1 Team USA may get involved in some, if not all, of Dennis' and Robbie [Buhl]'s [IndyCar Series] road races. Number two, we are also talking about, and these conversations are just preliminary, but we talking about maybe merging our commercial operations because my racing season is a six-month winter season and Dennis and Robbie's is six months, complimenting each other.
"So, you know, a lot of sponsors have come up to us, saying that, if we had a full twelve-month calendar to offer, that would be pretty potent and compelling. If that goes well, we may even think about merging our race teams together."
D&R, the third oldest team remaining in the IndyCar Series, is running three cars at the Indianapolis 500, having added Roger Yasukawa to season-long pilots Sarah Fisher and Buddy Rice.
