Dario Franchitti appeared to be as surprised as anyone when he took the chequered flag to claim victory in the rain-interrupted 91st Indianapolis 500, becoming the second British winner in three years after Dan Wheldon's triumph in 2005.

"It could have been any one of the five of us [AGR drivers] today. We rolled the dice. We were unlucky in the first stint of the race, so I was really glad to run the second part [after the first rain break]. I kind of have half an idea of what it means to win this race now. To be a member of this club is fantastic."
