PKV Racing could be poised to replace last season's all-rookie line-up with an infinitely more experienced pairing, after general manager Mark Johnson revealed that Champ Car veteran Alex Tagliani will test with the team at Sebring next month.
Tagliani has finished in the top ten in the championship over the last six seasons, and has 14 podiums and one win in his 131 starts, but has yet to find a team with which to become a regular frontrunner. He finished tenth in points with Rocketsports last year, but will not return to Paul Gentilozzi's outfit this season after falling out with the team boss.
I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to test with PKV Racing," the 35-year old Canadian admitted, "It's a first class organisation, a team capable of winning the championship this year. It would be a dream come true for me to be with PKV in 2008, and I think I can help them get to the top of the standings. But, first things first, and that is to do get our work done and have a good test at Sebring. After that, we will see where things go from there.
Earlier this month, PKV announced that fellow veteran Oriol Servia would return to the team to pilot one of its two planned entries in 2008.
Alex is a very competitive and capable driver that has consistently placed among the leaders in races and the championship standings over the years, Johnson noted, "Testing him at Sebring will give PKV Racing an opportunity to receive the benefit of his experience as we work through the various projects we have for the test. In addition, it will give us a chance to see how Alex meshes with our team as we proceed with our search for a second driver.
