Wednesday, 27th February 2008

Tony George and Kevin Kalkhoven meet the media to outline future of US open-wheel racing.

As expected, the Indycar Series will acquire both tangible and non-tangible assets from Champ Car, including not only intellectual properties and historical records, but also the mobile medical facilities that the CCWS has developed over the years. Talks are also ongoing between the series' respective safety teams to see how best they may work together for the good of the championship and its competitors.

Kalkhoven confirmed that Champ Car Atlantic would continue even without its parent series, as both he and former Champ Car co-owner Gerry Forsythe had a deep commitment to driver development. Although not revealed at the press call, it is expected that the junior open-wheel series would form ties with the American Le Mans Series, with Kalkhoven confirming a twelve-race schedule was safe for 2008.

Importantly, however, both men stressed the need to look forward rather than back, despite the obvious bumps in the road both are expecting before the unified series can run smoothly.
