2006 Formula Ford UK champion Nathan Freke passed his oval racing rookie test at the Nashville Superspeedway last week.
Freke, who inked a deal to compete with Michael Crawford Motorsport in the Indy Pro Series a few weeks before, notched over 100 miles on the 1.3 mile circuit in conditions which were less than ideal for testing.
Despite that though he impressed his new team with his ability whilst averaging 167 mph in a car he was driving for the first time.
"I am really pleased with how things went," he said. "It was a crazy sensation but good fun. The G forces on an oval take some getting used to, but I am looking forward to the pen test at Miami Homestead when the rest of the competition will be there and I can see the size of the task."
Team boss Michael Crawford was pleased with how the 25-year-old performed and is expecting great things from the Kidderminster-based star.
"Nathan did a real sound job and impressed the IRL technical director with his performance and there was no hesitation in passing him to race on the ovals," he added. "We are looking forward to some good performances from Nathan this season."
