As expected following last weekend's announcement by Walker Racing, the renamed KV Racing Technology outfit has confirmed that it will link up with Craig Gore and Will Power to continue the Team Australia programme in this year's IndyCar Series.
Although the announcement was expected to come at a press conference later today [Wednesday], co-owners Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser revealed that Power's arrival would complete the team's planned two-car assault on the recently merged series, with Oriol Servia's contract for the 2008 Champ Car competition being carried over.
"Jimmy and I are very pleased to announce a new chapter in the history of our team, which will campaign a two-car effort during the 2008 IndyCar Series season," Kalkhoven, one of the architects of the merger, commented, "In conjunction with our commitment to the IndyCar Series, we have re-branded the team as KV Racing Technology and agreed to a sponsorship arrangement with Aussie Vineyards-Team Australia. This will allow Will Power to join Oriol Servia in what I believe will be the most competitive and exciting open-wheel racing series.
"We want to welcome both Aussie Vineyards-Team Australia and Will to our team and we look forward to a very successful season in 2008 and for many years to
come."
The KV team - previously known as both PK and PKV Racing during its short existence - will enter its sixth year of competition in 2008, but its first in the IndyCar Series, having previously been exclusive to Champ Car. Servia, who came to an agreement with the team earlier this year, will be behind the wheel of the #32 Dallara-Honda, while Power will pilot the #8 Aussie Vineyards-Team Australia entry.
