Dale Coyne Racing could reveal a two-car entry for this year's unified IndyCar Series after being confirmed to a press conference on the opening day of the first test for teams making the switch from Champ Car this season.
Despite being one of the less well-funded teams on the Champ Car grid, Coyne has made no secret of his intention to join the unified series in 2008, but has also been one of the quieter operations when it came to speculation.
Having excelled on occasion with Bruno Junqueira in 2007 - witness successive podium finishes at Zolder, Assen and Surfers Paradise to end the season - the team is expected to announce the Brazilian as one of its pilots, possibly alongside fellow countryman Mario Moraes, who would make the step up from racing at F3 level in Britain. Both drivers tested with DCR at the recent Champ Car test at Sebring.
Junqueira, of course, had prior experience on the IndyCar Series, having raced at the Indianapolis 500 with former team Newman/Haas, but also has bad memories of the category, having sustained a serious back injury after being crashed out of his final appearance. Now fully recovered, however, the veteran in understood to be chasing a return, and has recently been racing for his country in the A1 Grand Prix Series.
Moraes is tipped to be the team's second runner, despite other candidates being available. The team is thought unlikely to appeal to Paul Tracy's 'race winning' demands, however, while Buddy Rice is expected to announce that he had re-signed with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.
