Andretti Green Racing has announced that the #27 IndyCar entry of rookie driver Hideki Mutoh is to run under the banner of the Honda Formula Dream Project for the 2008 season.
Honda Formula Dream Project, which is a unique major sponsor in the IndyCar Series, is Honda's overall program for nurturing racing drivers. It is a long-range program aimed at developing talented Japanese riders and drivers who have aspirations to compete for success in world-class racing events.
The project is implemented through Suzuka Racing School, Formula Challenge Japan, the All-Japan Formula 3 Championship, and Formula Nippon, with the objective of turning out skilled young racers able to follow in the footsteps of such drivers as
Takuma Sato, Kosuke Matsuura and Mutoh.
“The programme centred around the #27 car is very unique, but is also very much in sync with the development philosophy at Andretti Green,” team CEO Kevin Savoree said. “Honda Formula Dream Project works to develop young Japanese drivers and now we have Hideki in a position to hopefully challenge for rookie of the year honours in the IndyCar Series.
“Andretti Green has shown a willingness to invest in potential when it comes to young drivers and that has resulted in some great things for us. Hideki could be our third rookie of the year winner in six years and that makes this an exciting new program for our race team.”
