“I progressed a lot, and it was actually much nicer than yesterday, speed-wise," Bernoldi commented, "Today, I could go flat out more and was able to do more laps, while we started to take out some downforce and work on the set-up of the car. I improved over three miles per hour today, so it has been a very positive day for us."
The Brazilian admitted that having Conquest Racing team-mate Jaime Camara leave the circuit early in order to receive hospital checks for a back injury sustained in a Turn One accident had hampered the team's progress.
"I feel sorry for my team-mate because he crashed, but I think, if he had stayed on the track, we would have improved even more with two cars," the
F1 veteran said, "But we still have a long time to go. I think we are on the right track, and hopefully we will improve on today's time.”
After a difficult first day with the Pacific Coast Motorsport team, Dominguez was delighted to have passed the majority of the ROP.
“I can't believe that I ran my first laps around this amazing track today - this is an absolute dream come true for me," the Mexican Champ Car veteran admitted, "I have to give credit to my crew for getting this together in such a short period of time. Despite some issues, we still made it out there and we were able to pass three phases of the rookie test today. We had a small issue with the rear wing and we were very loose, but we did it. We only managed to run two hours and it was our first two hours ever running this car, but we accomplished a lot and I am relieved. Now we can turn our focus to making the car better, and I look forward to that.”
Series veterans Davey Hamilton and Max Papis both completed the refresher tests required of them after making returns to the Brickyard after time out of an IndyCar
