Continued rain takes more time away from Indy 500 qualifying preparations.

Castroneves cut things even finer, not taking the lead in 2002 until lap 177, but leading the final 24 laps on his way to becoming a two-time winner at Indianapolis. However, the Brazilian, like Wheldon and Cheever admits that it's good to qualify early.

"It's always good [to qualify the first weekend], because you don't want to spend that next week thinking about qualifying - you want to think about racing," he said, "You want to make sure you prepare yourself for the race the next week. Whatever happens after that, you need to be able to adapt to those circumstances."
