Alex Lloyd has been discharged from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following yesterday's accident during practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but can not yet return to action.

The Rahal Letterman/Chip Ganassi driver, who was taken to hospital after hitting the SAFER barrier at the south end of the racetrack on Friday, was given a battery of tests after reporting neck pain and a headache after the accident and, although they all proved negative, the Briton was kept overnight for observation.

He has now returned to his Indianapolis home and will meet with IndyCar Series physicians later in the week in order to receive the necessary medical clearance to take part in the second and final weekend of qualifying for this year's Indianapolis 500. The #16 car is expected to return to the track on, when practice resumes.

In a separate medical update from Dr Mike Olinger it has been revealed that Dale Coyne Racing crew chief Charles Buckman will be transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit and into a standard care room at Methodist Hospital today.

Buckman suffered a traumatic subarachnoid haemorrhage and skull fracture after being bowled over by Danica Patrick's car in pit-lane on Friday. His repeat CT scan today was unchanged.
