Sunshine returned to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and 36 drivers took advantage of the first complete six-hour practice day since May 6 to turn 2164 laps on the historic 2.5-mile oval.

Scott Dixon, who won the pole for the 92nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 10, topped the speed chart at 223.713 mph.

Team Penske team-mates Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe were second and third respectively, although the latter put his car in the barriers.

Helio however, was pleased with his day: "We had a good day. We continued to work on the race setup by doing long runs, and I'm happy with where we're at so far. Tomorrow we'll look to dial in the Team Penske car, and hopefully we'll be ready to race."

Will Power was next up in fourth, with Graham Rahal fifth and John Andretti sixth.

Like, Briscoe though, Power was another one to suffer an off, when he spun 180 degrees and contacted the Turn One SAFER Barrier with the left hand side of the car and came to a rest in Turn Two.

"There was a lot of blustery wind out there and I just got caught out," Power explained. "I wasn't even up to speed yet when the car came around, sending me into the wall.

"I am OK, I just have a few bumps and bruises on my knees and ankle. Other than that I feel fine. This is obviously a setback for the Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia team because of the track time we are going to lose, but I know the team will do what needs to be done and we will be ready to qualify tomorrow."

Further down the order Marco Andretti was seventh, while Dan Wheldon and Oriol Servia came in eighth and ninth, followed by Danica Patrick, Bruno Junqueira and Buddy Rice.

"It was really nice to get out there today and run a lot of laps in the Indiana Jones/Blockbuster car," said Marco. "We were able to use the time today to make a lot of changes to the car. We've still got a lot of work to do this weekend to make the race car better, though. Hopefully we'll get a lot of time the next two days."

Townsend Bell and Tony Kanaan were 13th and 14th respectively, while Alex Lloyd rounded out the top 15.

"We struggled a little bit this morning," noted Llloyd. "With the conditions changing so much from yesterday to today, it made our car not work at all. So we went back on a few things that we've learned, and I suppose we had a productively bad day in a way.
