Jaques Lazier, having missed out on a ride in this year's Indianapolis 500, has agreed to stand in Robby Gordon's camp, helping the NASCAR driver out should he race or not.
Lazier, whose brother Buddy landed a late chance with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, has agreed to act as spotter for Gordon and, in the event of a rain delay that forces the owner-driver to abandon his seat in favour of the NASCAR event at Charlotte, as reserve in the #70 car.
"I think we're very well prepared going into both races, but there are always a lot of factors going into the race, like fuel mileage, the weather and all the other variables that make the Indy 500 the Indy 500," Gordon said after Carb Day at the Brickyard.
"I don't control the weather. We know what our plan is, and we'll stick with it. I have Jaques Lazier here. He's going to spot for me and is available to drive if that's the situation that we have to deal with."
