Audi defends Le Mans 24 Hour title.

Sort Comments:

Audi defends Le Mans 24 Hour title.

For the second successive year, Audi held off the challenge of Peugeot to secure victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours despite another late rain shower in the final three hours that threatened to put a spanner in the works.

YES! MEGA! GREAT! Sorry for screaming, but I'm just so happy!

Tommy is the BEST! Tommy is the GREATEST! Tommy is UNBELIEVABLE! He and Allan McNish are the best endurance racers on this PLANET right now. This is just a great day for Tommy, for Allan, for Dindo, for Team Joest and Dr. Ullrich... just for racing as a whole! Let's have a celebration nobody will ever forget!

TOMMY KRISTENSEN rules! ALLAN MCNISH rules! DINDO CAPELLO rules!

Sensationel!

Suppose that's why this is reputed as the greatest test in the world. Peugeot had the quickest car, but being the quickest doesn't necessary make it the best.

I would have preffered a Pug win just for something different, but well done Audi. You can't say anything against a flawless 24 hout performance.

Alex, luck? "You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means!" I think the word you're looking for is 'skill', not 'luck'.

Stunning performance from Audi this weekend, running against a car that was consistently 4/5 seconds per lap quicker and still coming out ahead is nothing short of superb. Peugeot thought they had it in the bag, but they obviously have a lot to go yet. I think it was a bit naive on their part to think they could beat Audi in 2 years (seeing that Audi has a decade of experience racing Le Mans) by just pouring more money on the development of the car. A fast car does not Le Mans win, as it was prooved today yet again.

Proud Audi owner.

If it wasn't for the rain Audi wouldn't have won so i can say that they had luck on their side

Peugeot were better in the dry and Audi were better in the wet, simple as that Alex. It's hardly Audi's fault that the Peugeot's were so poor in the first couple of hours of wet running.

Wonderful race and a stunning performance from McNish, Capello and Kristensen.

Again, it's not luck, it's skill. The Audi package was, in the whole, more consistent, and that's not luck, that's skill and foresight. Peugeots were blistering fast in the dry and almost undrivable in the rain, and that is their fault alone. It's not like it doesn't ever rain during the 24 heures du Mans, they should be prepared for all eventualities. So, they decided to cut corners and don't develop the car to be efficient in the rain, and that is Audi's luck? Again, it's nothing but experience and good race management on Audi's side, to be prepared for each and every race condition possible. It also shows an amateurish poor planning and judgement on the part of Peugeot. [continues]

It's an endurance 24H race, speed doesn't matter much. Peugeot went for the speed route and neglected other aspects. Well, it's their fault and their fault alone, and not anybody else's luck.

If you want to talk about luck, what about last year? If it wasn't for the rain none of the Peugeots would have lasted past 18 or 19 hours because the race pace would have been much higher. The only car to cross the line did so with no oil pressure and a severly overheating engine, after being stopped in the track (not the pits!) for the best part of the last half hour, just waiting for the final lap because if it didn't wouldn't be able to finish!

Hope they do better next year, sincerely.

Luck is when hard work and preparation meets opportunity.

Thomas Jefferson said, "I'm a great believer in Luck and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it."

Absolutely great race but pity about the toilet blocks packing in after only 18 hours.

The only luck Audi had was when TK hit other cars and got no damage out of it!
That is luck to have 2 accidents on such a high speed circuit and suffer no damage. Yes i know neither collision was at speed but if they had of been the race would have been over for the No. 2 Audi.
Congrats To the Drivers and team, it was almost the perfect race for them. And thats what got them the win....
Up the mighty Aston for bringing home David Brabham for back 2 back win in GT1, It was great to see a fellow Aussie on the top step last year! Wish i was there to see it again this year.

Did "Pigout" spend any R&D time on wet conditions? The little bit I saw of the race,it appeared that once the rain came, they would do just as well to park the cars in the garage?Surely they spent a lot on rain development? But not nearly enough obviously.
Congrats to all.G--out.
