Martin Short has described fourth place outright in last weekend's Le Mans 24 Hours as the “crowning achievement” of two decades' toil and commitment in motor racing, and argues if that was possible this year, a podium could just be on the cards in 2008.

“Stuart did a great job; I was absolutely delighted with him. He's come from Formula 3 and he's a solid driver. He's a very intelligent lad, he kept his wits about him and actually brought some significant influence on the team with decisions he made when he was in the car. He was a great addition.

“The conditions though were ridiculous to be honest. Joao was saying he couldn't go above walking pace at the end, because the problem with the prototypes is they pick up on the water and just start floating. He was quite scared I think, but he did a great job and brought it home.”

As to where Rollcentre Racing goes from here, Short was almost unsure what to say. One thing is clear, however – there is only one thing to aim for after finishing fourth.

“I'd like to say the podium,” he stated, “but I'm sure there's going to be much bigger and hotter competition next year. You'd think that would be impossible, but fourth place wasn't really possible this year so you never know.”
