It was championship leaders Stephane Sarrazin and Pedro Lamy's turn for the 908's bad luck in the LMES championship at
Silverstone today, as a puncture put paid to hopes of a strong finish and allowed Peugeot teammates Marc Gene and Nicolas Minassian to take the win in the 6hr event - a full two laps ahead of the Pescarolo Sport entry of Collard and Boullion, who finished second. The Rollcentre Pescarolo Judd of Martin Short, Stuart Hall and Joao Barbosa rounded out the LMP1 podium and the top-three overall finishers. Lamy and Sarrazin in the number 8 908 HDI were forced to settle for fifth place, with the works Creation slotting-in in front of them. Certainly worthy of note in the LMP1 race was the impressively mature display by 16 year-old Max Chilton, who shared the Arena Motorsport Zytek with his BTCC race-winning brother, Tom, the pair bringing the car home to a solid 7th overall, 6th in class.
The Barazi Epsilon Zytek of Barazi, Vergers and Ojjeh took victory in LMP2, closely followed by Tom Kimber-Smith and Danny Watts in the second Zytek 07S Zytek with the Quifel ASM Lola taking the third step from the RML MG Lola of Erdos and Newton, in fourth.
Team Oreca came out on top in the GT1 class, with the Saleen S7-R of Stephane Ortelli and Soheil Ayari completing 181 laps and finishing ahead of both Radical SR9 LMP2 cars. Also beating prototypes, and coming in a close second behind the Saleen, was the Team Modena DBR9 piloted by Antonio Garcia and Darren Turner. Alphand Adventures' number 73 Corvette C5-R came home third, beating teammates Policand, Goueslard and Gavin in the newer C6-R by three laps and two places.
In the GT2s, Robert Bell and Gianmaria Bruni's Virgo Motorsport F430 GT took class victory and 24th overall ahead of the 997 GT3 RSR of Narac and Lietz. The ever-improving works Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R finished a lap behind to claim third spot and 28th overall.
