Peugeot is to give a test in its 908 HDi to the winner of the inaugural 207 Spider Cup at the end of the season.

Four drivers - Dino Lunardi, Grégory Guilvert, Julien Briché and Julien Schell – currently remain in contention for the title heading into the season finale at Magny-Cours next week, with the prospect of getting behind the current Le Mans Series pacesetter on offer.

As well as picking up a new Peugeot 207 Coupe Cabriolet, the winner will take part in a fitness programme with race drivers Marc Gene, Nicolas Minassian, Pedro Lamy and Stéphane Sarrazin before visiting the Peugeot Sport factory in Vélizy, France to meet the Peugeot team and have a seat fitting in the 908. The winner will then take part in a day of testing at Paul Ricard – where specific targets will be set.

"This year saw the organisation of the inaugural 207 Spider Cup,” Peugeot Sport director Michel Barge said. “Most of the races took place within the framework of the Le Mans Series and took contestants to some of Europe's most prestigious and legendary circuits, where the 908 HDi FAPs were also always present, of course, and this is what prompted the idea of this outstanding prize for the winner."

Team manager Serge Saulnier said he was pleased to give the winner chance to run in the 908, although he added it was too soon to decide if the test could lead to anything else.

"The programme will give us a chance to get to know the winner better,” he said. “We will be able to evaluate his fitness, attitude, professionalism and ability to adapt and listen, as well as gauge his overall approach and how well he progresses. It is consequently too early to say whether the test will lead to other things within our Le Mans programme."
