Allan McNish says he feels a number of teams could be in the mix for victory this weekend as the Le Mans Series heads to Monza this weekend for the second round of the year.
McNish made his return to the series in the opening round of the year in Barcelona, leading the opening round in his Audi R10 before mechanical issues left the reigning ALMS champion in fifth place alongside team-mate Dindo Capello.
With the team having worked hard to resolve the issues encountered during the season opener ahead of this weekends race, McNish said he was looking forward to the event – with the Scot admitting that he expected a number of teams to be strong at the high-speed Italian venue.
“Everyone at Audi Sport has been working hard in between the races and I'm certain we'll get our famed reliability back,” he said. “The competition is so intense in endurance sportscar racing nowadays that any time delays rule you out of contention.
“The Peugeot is very quick as is the Aston Martin-engined Lola while the Courage and Pescarolo will be in the mix. It'll be nip and tuck every lap from start to finish. With around 50 cars on the track that means a lot of overtaking.”
