A week after competing at Spa in the World Series by Renault, Guillaume Moreau enjoyed a successful return to the Belgian circuit as he helped the Luc Alphand Adventures team to a second Le Mans Series GT1 win in three races this season.
Moreau lined up alongside team boss Luc Alphand and Patrice Goueslard for the event as the team enjoyed the perfect result ahead of next month's Le Mans 24 Hours, with the new race on the Le Mans Series schedule not taking place until August.
Moreau was on the pace straight away when on-track action kicked off on Thursday and posted the fastest time amongst the GT1 runners – some seven tenths clear of the Team Modena Aston Martin with the team having found a good base set-up going into the weekend.
Red flags during the Saturday practice sessions meant that the team wasn't able to run in qualifying trim ahead of the session itself, with the #72 Corvette lining up second in class.
Moreau took the start of the race and it didn't take long for him to move into the head of the GT1 pack after battling ahead of the Modena Aston Martin on the opening lap. Having held the lead during his stint, Moreau then lost out shortly before pitting for his first stop.
“Antonio Garcia missed his braking at La Source hairpin and I got past,” he said. “A few laps later he tried to attack me after Le Raidillon but I was able to stay in front.
“Just before the end of my first stint I came upon a car going slowly in Le Raidillon. I went through a corner in fourth that we normally go through flat out in sixth, and the Aston took the lead.”
After a quick pit stop to fill up and put on four new tyres, Moreau took the lead when the Aston Martin hit problems and then handed over to Patrice Goueslard. With the IPB Spartak Lamborghini hitting the front after making the most of a Safety Car period, Alphand used his stint to keep the gap between the two as close as possible before handing the car back to Moreau.
