Le Mans » Pesca close to Audis, but with work to do.

Thursday, 12th June 2008

Leading Pescarolo is quick at Le Mans, but a heavy accident for Romain Dumas on oil leaves home favourites with much work to do ahead of second qualifying and the race.

Though the impact caused the session to be halted whilst the debris was cleared away and the car brought back to the pits, team chief Pescarolo insisted it was nothing that couldn't be fixed.

“We were just unlucky,” the 65-year-old underlined. “The Aston Martin blew up its engine and Romain Dumas was the first one to arrive. There were no flags, nothing, so he went off, but it could have been worse. It's just one of these things that can happen.

“There was quite a lot of damage, but nothing very important – nothing that's impossible to repair. The monocoque is alright and it can be repaired, and that's the main thing. For the rest of the weekend it will be alright, no problem.”

In a further blow, shortly afterwards the second Pescarolo driven by Benoit Treluyer came to a stop at the end of the pit-lane, needing to be pushed back to its garage.
