DBR9s running strongly at Le Mans 24 Hours heading into Sunday morning.

The #009 Aston Martin DBR9 extended its lead in the GT1 class heading into Sunday morning as the battle for honours in the Le Mans 24 Hours intensified.

Antonio Garcia handed #009 over to Darren Turner just before midnight, having put in a series of quick laps to edge out a little bit more of a cushion in the category lead, despite tricky conditions having seen a number of cars suffer moments on track.

“My biggest aim is just to keep it neat and tidy,” Turner said as he prepared to hit the track. “It's good now that the race is properly underway: everyone's had the chance to settle in a bit and you can just concentrate on doing a good solid job.”

The #007 car was delivered to Heinz-Harald Frentzen by Andrea Piccini after a flawless run to maintain third place.

“I managed to be quite competitive in the night at Le Mans last time and I really enjoyed it,” the German said. “Hopefully the same will be the case this time, 16 years later!”

The #63 Corvette is currently splitting the two Astons on the running order.
