The governing body of British motorsport, the Motor Sports Association, has paid tribute to Allan McNish, Darren Turner and David Brabham for their success in the 76th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours.
On the tenth anniversary of his maiden victory with Porsche, McNish finally secured a win at La Sarthe with Audi as the #2 R10 TDi he shared with Dindo Capello and Tom Kristensen came home clear of the first of the factory Peugeot 908s.
Turner and Brabham meanwhile - the latter having extensive involvement with the MSA through its Race Elite programme - helped Aston Martin successfully defend the GT1 title at the wheel of the new-look Gulf liveried DBR9 after a race long battle with the two factory Corvette C6.Rs.
"On behalf of the Motor Sports Association and everyone connected with UK motor sport, I would like to congratulate Allan McNish on his superb performance in winning this weekend's Le Mans 24 Hour race," MSA chief executive Colin Hilton said. "Allan has been an integral member of the Audi squad for many years and I was delighted to see him on the top step of the podium after a gruelling battle with the Peugeots.
"Allan is one of UK motor sport's finest ambassadors and we are delighted that he recently agreed to endorse the MSA's new
Go Motorsport project, designed to raise the profile and attract more people to the exciting world of motor sport.
"We should also recognise the achievements of David Brabham and Darren Turner, team mates in the Gulf Aston Martin that claimed victory in the LMGT1 class. As well as leading the MSA's prestigious Race Elite programme for the best young drivers in the country, David has himself also agreed to become a
Go Motorsport ambassador, while Darren is one of the country's most versatile and successful drivers.
"We congratulate them all, their extraordinary teams and everyone connected with these great successes."
