Reigning AMA Motocross champion Ricky Carmichael continued his perfect start to the 2005 season by winning at High Point on Sunday, round two of the series, after catching and overtaking James 'Bubba' Stewart in both motos.

Suzuki backed Carmichael took the holeshot in race one, but was caught and passed by Stewart - only to repass the Kawasaki premier-class rookie and record victory. Race two saw the roles reversed - with Stewart leading Carmichael early on - but this time RC hunted down, then overtook, the #259 on his way to a 1-1 sweep.

The pair, who were effectively in a race of their own, were joined on the overall podium by Honda’s Kevin Windham - who took distant 3-3 finishes. Yamaha star Chad Reed was fourth in race one, but lost further points with eighth in the second outing, following a fall.

Meanwhile, the 125cc class saw young Mike Alessi claim his much expected, but still impressive, first pro victory - the KTM star, who was denied the triumph following a last turn race two clash with Grant Langston at round one, would win moto one and then finish second in the final race to secure the overall.

Alessi was beaten in race two by series returnee, and former champion, Mike Brown, who took his Honda to an emotional moto victory and would also stand third on the overall podium. Between Alessi and Brown on the podium was Suzuki’s Davi Millsaps, who took second in race one and third in race two.
