Preview – Grand Prix of Germany.

After a short break the 2005 Motocross World Championship is back in action this weekend with the Grand Prix of Germany, the first of the four final events of the season.

Gaildorf is one of the oldest venues within the series and is usually an important round in the final sprint for the titles – but with three more events, and one hundred and fifty points available after this round, nothing will be decided this weekend.

In the MX2 class there’s only a single point in the standings between McFarlane and Cairoli, while Everts leads Coppins by thirty-nine points in the main MX1 category.

2005 is one of the most open seasons, with many new and young riders in the winner’s circle. After thirteen rounds several riders have won their first ever heat or GP: Anthony Boissière, Billy Mackenzie, David Philippaerts, Davide Guarneri, Christophe Pourcel and Kevin Strijbos.

"We know that in a short time famous riders such as Everts or Smets will retire and with so many new talents we are sure that the World Championships have a brilliant future," said Giuseppe Luongo, the president of Youthstream.

Three times a winner in Gaildorf, Everts hasn’t won since the British Grand Prix, but successfully beat Joel Smets, Steve Ramon, Ben Townley and Joshua Coppins in the Belgian Championship last week.

"It’s difficult to understand why I crashed in all the previous GPs, but for the first time in a while I scored more points than Coppins in Czech Republic two weeks ago and I hope it will continue," said MX1 leader Everts.

Neither McFarlane nor Cairoli have ever scored a top result in Gaildorf and both are battling for the World title for the first time in their career. Cairoli won three of the last four GPs and closed the gap with McFarlane who won his last heat ten weeks ago in Great Britain.
