Sun City previously hosted the South African GP, but the 2007 event was cancelled and replaced by a second Italian round. The new venue of Nelspruit is 30 kilometres away from an International Airport, at Kruger Park, where many hotels are also located.

"I want to thank MSA, and especially its managing director, Mrs. Beaulah Schoeman, for their investment, will and valuable support in stabilising the FIM Motocross World Championship in South Africa." Said Youthstream president, Giuseppe Luongo. "This is the safest solution: by having the contract made directly between Youthstream and the National Federation, we are able to guarantee everyone a high level of organisation and secure the future of Motocross in South Africa."

"MSA is extremely happy that the future of the FIM Grand Prix of South Africa has been secured for our country for the next five years - especially as this event is the only World Championship motorsport event in South Africa," said Schoeman.
