Robbie Maddison, a freestyle motocross star from Australia, will attempt to jump the length of a football field on New Year's Eve at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas - to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest motorcycle jump.
'Maddo' is already the owner of two world records - for the longest jump on a 125cc motorcycle (221 feet) and the longest jump with a trick (246 feet). Now he plans to jump 360 feet (109.728 metres) to become the standard-bearer for distance jumping.
"I'm really excited about jumping that football field on New Year's Eve. My training has been going well and I feel ready to go 360 feet," said Maddison. "I'm sorry Rhys [Millen, injured in a practice incident] won't be there to flip his truck, but that's the nature of experiments; they either succeed or you have to go back to the drawing board. We're top athletes and the things we do involve risk, but calculated risk, and I know he'll bounce back very soon!"
Maddison's jump is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. on the West Coast, which is midnight on the East Coast.
Completing a New Year's Eve to remember at the
Red Bull Experiment will be live acts by music stars Angels & Airwaves, beats laid down by Mix Master Mike and a set by alt rockers Boys Like Girls.
The Red Bull Air Force will also skydive out of the darkness and the TNT freestyle motocross team will throw down tricks with style.
