The weather for the WERA weekend was not looking so good, very mixed conditions and we decided that there was no sense in me going out in the rain because I wouldn’t learn a great deal. Luckily, Friday was a nice day. I learnt the track bit by bit which was as I predicted, very difficult to learn with a few blind corners, camber changes mid corner and basically everything I would expect from an American track. Another thing that I had to get used to was riding close to barriers! The track wasn’t particularly dangerous but after being spoilt in GPs for the last four years it was a bit of a shock!
There were a few points where I laughed to myself for the first few laps on Friday and I decided that if I was going to crash then I’ll be saving it for when it counts on the AMA weekend. The first day on track went well. I got to grips with everything and picked it all up bit by bit and was having fun. It was a no pressure weekend and also the main objective for the weekend was for the team's 125cc rider, Patrick Jacobsen, to win the championship. I was just there to learn what I could about the bike, tyres and circuit so to be on the ball for the following week.
Saturday was wet and the only dry spell in the day came for the 125cc race which was lucky. ‘PJ’ won his race and the championship with it so the team were well happy and are now looking at taking him over to Spain for the last round of the Spanish championship this month. Sunday was a pretty steady day which we used to further set the bike up and didn’t really get involved in the racing too much. It was very cold in Ohio and we were having a lot of problems with the tyres 'cold tearing' so we worked on the setup for the day.
