On Friday we had a lot of overnight rain and the track was greasy. Also, to make matters worse, something from the night before dragged mud over some parts of the track and it was proper slick. I ran very slightly off line once and the front and rear just slid out from under me like I’d hit ice. I stayed on the bike but made sure I didn’t run wide there again! I was tenth in the session but there was plenty more in hand. In the Formula Extreme practice the circuit was again very slick. I was in the top five for most of the session and got bumped back to seventh in the end when most put new rubber on.
I was looking forward to getting back out on Saturday and putting in some good lap times because I didn’t feel like I pushed hard enough on Friday and wanted to make amends for it. Saturday is qualifying for the both classes then warm up for the FX class and then normally the race is one of the last things of the day.
It was wet practically all day. It rained early in the morning, then the circuit got their big jet dryers out and pretty much dried the whole place off. Just as they did that I got in my leathers ready to go out and it hammered it down again. It was now about 2pm so everybody thought that they would call it a day at that and then try to cram it all in the following day. But they had another go at drying it and by the time that was done it was about 4:30pm. There was big confusion as to whether we’d be going out because nobody had heard anything but then all of a sudden they start calling the FX class for our warm-up session.
