In the 250cc class,
Jorge Lorenzo celebrated his 20th birthday in China by winning his third grand prix of the season. The Spaniard, riding the Fortuna Aprilia, has opened up a 27-point lead as he defends his world championship crown on the way to what seems like a certain
MotoGP ride in 2008.
The only rider to beat him this season is Italian
Andrea Dovizioso who is second in the championship for Scot Honda and holds the 250cc pole record at Le Mans. The former 125cc world champion also won the 125cc race three years ago.
Current 125cc world champion Alvaro Bautista has finished on the podium in the last three of his races on his debut 250cc season, but last year’s winner Yuki Takahashi will miss the race after re-breaking his arm in China. Look out for another former 125cc world champion Thomas Luthi who has won the 125cc race for the last two years before switching to the 250’s this season.
Lukas Pesek not only won his first grand prix in China but also grabbed the lead in the 125cc World Championship. The 21 year-old from the Czech Republic gave the Valsir Seedorf Derbi team their first win of the season to open up a two-point advantage over Hungarian Gabor Talmacsi with his Bancaja Aprilia team-mate Hector Faubel just a further two points adrift in third place.
