After leaving Vegas we cruised on up to Miller. The track itself if situated in pretty cool place, surrounded by huge mountains about 40 miles from Salt Lake City. On a clear day you can easily see the huge Great Salt Lake from the circuit. The weather was quite strange there, for the first few days it was really cold, even snowing at our hotel but then gradually it got nice and warm, up to about 28º c. It’s a strange feeling standing in the heat and looking up at snow covered mountains.
The 'Riding to Save Lives' charity event was good. It was a three day event and basically a track day where all the proceeds go to the R2SL charity, everybody got loads of track time and I was able to get out on track to see what it was all about although it was a different configuration to what the AMA race with.
In the evenings myself, Celtic Racing’s young 125cc rider PJ Jacobsen and our mechanic Mark 'Bigman' Kelly were filling the time with some indoor bicycle racing on Bigman’s mountain bike (pictured). It was much like what I did in New York in January where we did the indoor racing on motocross bikes but this time it was just us three using pedal power rather than engine. Our oval track was setup on the very slick, polished concrete surface of Miller’s pit garages and marked out at each end but a box of rags and a toolbox. By the end of the night it became very serious, the stopwatch was brought out and we were playing around with the bikes front suspension and tyre pressures.
