The FX bike however what a little more difficult. For some reason it just seems that we are just missing a bit with that bike and it is very difficult to pinpoint what it is. The engine is faster, it has Brembo brakes as opposed to the standard Yamaha ones on the Supersport bike, top of the line Ohlins TTX front suspension and yet it doesn’t match the Supersport bike’s lap time which makes absolutely no sense and has left myself, Mark and team owner Barry all scratching our heads. We played around with many different settings on the bike but still could not get it to match the times I could consistently churn out on the Supersport bike. It’s something that we need to continue working on and hopefully get to the bottom of.
After the test we stayed at the circuit for a few days so Mark could spent some decent time working on and prepping the bikes before we headed back down to California for the next race in Sears Point/Infineon… whatever you want to call it. Apparently it used to be Sears point but is now called Infineon, I just call it whatever comes to mind first.
What they call "promoters practice" on Thursday was my first outing around the circuit. We usually get decent track time and there are no factory teams allowed to participate that day which makes it fairer for everybody who’s up against them. On Thursday I usually just learn what I can about the track seeing as almost all of them are new to me. I try not to touch the bike too much and just concentrate on picking up the track as fast as possible, following who I can to learn more and more and just setting myself up for the rest of the weekend.
