My friend Andrew had arranged to come to Laguna to watch for the weekend and luckily he was at the airport to pick me up. From there we had previously pre-arranged to hang about in San Fran for the day but I was in no fit state so we headed on down to Monterey, by Laguna Seca. I slept most of the way down and then we stopped off to buy some new dressing kits for the elbow, my hip and some painkillers to set me up for the weekend.
Luckily, due to Laguna’s noise restrictions the AMA weekend was only a two day event starting on Saturday. This meant I had all day Friday to chill out and hoped to get myself into some sort of decent shape before the weekend’s riding started. I woke up on Friday morning feeling sore, but much more refreshed after a 6 hour sleep. I spoke to my parents that morning, who had spoken to the doctors and done a bit of research into why I felt so bad on the plane. All things seemed to point towards having a reaction to the tetanus jab because it turned out I wasn’t due to have another until 2012.
We had an easy morning and then in the early afternoon we went to the track and met up with the team. After being at the track for a few hours and doing what I had to do, we noticed that from the elbow wound down most of my arm had become really red and swollen, and was getting worse. We decided that we should go to the circuit medical centre and get it checked out. Just as we got there, they were shutting the gates. One of the assistant doctors was last to be leaving, he had a quick look at it and said that I better go to the hospital and get it looked at.
