Chaz checks in - Pt.4: MotoGP or AMA?

Friday, 28th September 2007

"Riding in the last three GPs of this year is still a possibility" - Chaz Davies.

In the fourth and final part of his latest exclusive column for Crash.net, Chaz Davies considers his future options - including the chance of riding for d'Antin Ducati in the final rounds of the 2007 MotoGP season...

All in all 2007 has been a good year for me. I have had a lot of fun in America and the totally unexpected Laguna MotoGP ride seems to have opened up new doors for me. I’m still very much undecided on my plans for next year. Obviously MotoGP is where I want to be but I think that a full time ride may be a long shot at this stage.

The role of Ducati/Bridgestone official test rider is a definite opportunity that needs serious consideration. I was supposed to do the last round of MotoGP at Motegi but felt that, due to the arm infection, I still wasn’t up to shape to take the strains that a MotoGP weekend puts on the body. I figured that there was more chance of me doing myself down and decided it would be better to get myself fully recovered.

Riding in the last three GPs of this year is still a possibility. When Livio Suppo from Ducati and Luis d’Antin return from Japan I will be speaking to them to hopefully find out what the situation is.

Asides from all things MotoGP for next year, I would be more than happy to stay in America. Like I said, I have enjoyed it over there and I think that with the year's worth of experience I now have under my belt I could be a serious challenger over there.

Thanks very much to Celtic Racing for all their support this year. We’ve all had a great year and it’s been a real pleasure to be with such a good bunch of people. Thanks to Dunlop for their support with the rubber. Thanks to Mark Hamilton for being my travel agent and Andrew for playing the nurse role at Laguna! Also thanks to Shoei helmets, Berik leathers and Alpinestars.

That’s it for now. I’ll keep you posted on any news in my next 'check in' and hopefully you’ll see me in the Australian Grand Prix.
