In his latest update for Crash.net, rising 250GP star Chaz Davies reviews a frustrating final pre-season test, at Jerez, venue for the season opening Spanish Grand Prix on March 26...
After my disappointing first test of the season in Barcelona I barely had time to sit down, whilst I was at home, before I had to get back on a plane and head to Jerez for the 2nd of the IRTA tests. But, before we (my dad and I) even got on a plane there were high dramas!
On Tuesday afternoon I drove the 3 ½ hour trek from my house to Stansted airport for our direct flight to Jerez that evening, at about 5pm. We got there in plenty of time, and did the usual standing in a great long queue whilst 1 lady checks everybody in when there is easy 20 free desks either side of her! The usual airport scenario...!
Anyway, all was good and we got checked in, went through security, had something to eat and then made our way to the gate. As we got to the gate we realised that the Jerez Flight on the screens has disappeared and then when we looked around noticed that nobody was at our gate, bit strange! So we made our way back to the shops area where we found an airport information desk and were informed that our flight had been cancelled! Awesome! We went back out of security and everywhere we looked there were queues answering our questions as to why nobody was at our gate.
The reason for the cancellation was because French Air Traffic Control had gone on strike that afternoon resulting in some flight’s that go over France having to be cancelled. Strangely they were letting some go but not others and ours happened to be one of many that got axed. So, I got straight on the phone to mum and fired up my computer in search of a new flight preferably that evening or, if not, as early as possible the next morning.
