Wednesday, 5th April 2006

For the first time since his debut 2000 season, Valentino Rossi heads to round two of the MotoGP World Championship without the points lead - and has mixed memories of his 'comeback' venue.

Not only did he finish second behind Stoner last year but he won the 125cc race at the track two years ago. He started last year’s race from pole and still holds the 125cc lap record. Both Italians Alex de Angelis and Andrea Dovizioso are still seeking their first 250cc victories, completed the podium in Jerez.

Yet another Spaniard, Alvaro Bautista dominated the 125cc race in Jerez but can expect a tougher time on Saturday where the likes of the impressive Lukas Pesek, Mattia Pasini, Mika Kallio and last year’s winner Gabor Talmacsi will be on the pace.

World Champion Thomas Luthi will be looking to recover from the disastrous start to his title defence. The Swiss Honda rider crashed out while still recovering from a broken collarbone and cut foot.
