Preview – British Grand Prix.

Thursday, 29th June 2006

Nicky Hayden arrives at Donington Park for this Sunday's British Grand Prix just a week after taking his second ever MotoGP victory - and increasing his world championship lead to an impressive 42 points.

The Finnish rider’s second win of the season came in Assen and he knows he’s got to win many more races to prevent Bautista taking the title. His considerable task will not be helped by the fact that Bautista’s team-mates Sergio Gadea, Hector Faubel, and Mattia Pasini hold the next three places in the Championship.

Rather like some of the World Cup football games, the 2.500 miles Donington Park circuit is split into two distinct halves. The first part, including the magnificent Craner Curves, is fast and flowing while the second part after the Esses is stop and start but provides some good overtaking opportunities.

Donington Park has hosted the British Grand Prix since 1987 when it took over from Silverstone who ran the event for ten years. Previously the British round of the world championships were held on the infamous 37.73 mile mountain circuit on the Isle of Man.
