The reigning double World Superbike champion's previous three MotoGP tests have been at Sepang, Jerez and then Sepang again - but, unlike those circuits, which are MotoGP only, Phillip Island is also on the WSBK schedule and was the scene of a thrilling race two Toseland victory over home hero Troy Bayliss in early 2007.
If Nicky gets sick of the Pedrosa bias at HRC, maybe him and James can swap!
I fancy seeing Nicky and Vale together on the M1.

I wonder if all those people who said JT would amount to nothing will place a comment on here. I said wait til the Philip Island test, and check it out. I can't wait for the racing to start. Go on the BRIT...

Lets not read too much into it yet, the season is very long, but it is an very good start for James. I could hardly have imagined better by this stage.

To52land is actually 4th, not 3rd, because Colin Edwards' first day time was better, but still it's a very impressive achievement and I look forward to seeing James during the season... I'm pretty sure he will take things steadily and sensibly as he always did, and like Vermeulen did...
It sounds like we'll have a very exciting season!

I'm delighted that JT has proven he is capable of running right on the pace of things at the sharp end! I soooo much want him to do well in MotoGP, christ it's been long enough for those of us old enough to remember the halcyon days of Barry Sheene! Maybe now we have a guy we can *really* shout for in the top category!
I can only hope that Yamaha see sense and give him decent equipment. Afterall, he's been the epitomy of professionalism and hasn't gone lobbing the bike at the scenery! Just got on with the job, not complained and progressed at every test.
GO JT!

You only go by each seperate days times though WhoCares. Afterall, qualifying times from Friday's aren't used to determine the grid anymore. (Except in abysmal conditions of course)
Whatever way you look at it, he has exceeded everyones expectations!
Steady on boys - it's only testing! One thing for sure, he's a great talent, fights like a pit-bull and not afraid of anyone no matter how big their reputations. Can't wait to see the likes of Elias try it on with him - I know who my monies on and he don't wear a sombrero! If Yamaha give him a fast bike he could be a top 5 contender at least. Good luck to him...

Seriously chuffed for JT, yeah it is only practice but he's showing that he can mix it with the big boys, with no Nori in GP all i can say is GO JT!!
And as for all those nay sayers, you gotta admit the boy done good
Well we can read into it a little, He will be expected to perform here in race trimm, Personally Im calling 13th to 15 in WC, PI will be his best result of the year. He will tag on the back of Rossi and hang in there for everthing he's got, He seems to be temprementle like that ol King Toe.
Ace27 - it's not like PI is the only circuit on the calendar that he's been to before... Think Valencia, Donington, Laguna Seca, Misano, Qatar, Assen and Brno (He's won SBK races at most of them too!). Plus he'll have done a fair bit of testing at Sepang and Jerez.
I'll admit he's got tracks to learn and still has lots to learn about the bike.
Don't be fooled by the easygoing outward personality you see in the paddock. He's a real hard fighter once he gets the leathers on..
Go James!!

James keeps improving every time he goes out and what's more he's realistic and humble in his statements, really good, an asset to MotoGP
Maybe not the next big thing but to us Brits he certainly is (things have been a bit barren for quite a few years for us). Take a look where the many seasoned regulars finished yesterday (Melandri, Capirossi, Vermulen, etc etc). This guy also wapped Baiggi, Bayliss and Nori in WSBK don't forget.
This performance, albeit early in the year and with no full grid to contest positions, still speaks volumes bout JT's potential. im a Yank who's seen the alot of motogp greats king kenny, lawson, rainey, doohan, schwantz, vale, and the odd young gun (stoner, hayden) and i think its fair to say that toseland does have it in him to be world champ in time. He's adapted superbly and is talented and hungry but still patient enough like the championship predecessors before him to apply his craft at the right time to win races. We've seen it in superbikes and his ability to apply different styles (getting away fast like rainey) or studying opponents (rossi) will enable him to compete with the best

I was wondering when tankmax46 was going to come on and say something to put JT down. My only shock is that it took you so long.

ratty that is not put down, it's a question. I think JT is a great rider otherwise he wouldn't be in motogp or have wsbk championships.
well done JT. i think this is what the English riders needed, someone to look up to and think they can do what james has done and is doing now, instead of someone at the back of the grid.
