Rossi red hot at Sepang.

The third and final MotoGP pre-season test to be held at Sepang began with a bang on Tuesday when Valentino Rossi set the fastest lap time seen at the Malaysian circuit this winter.

Well done Rossi,
I think the reason Rossi (yamaha)are testing mainly at Sepang and Jerez and not PI,is because Sepang and Jerez races are at begining of season. So if Rossi can win those 2 races early on in the season, that'll put pressure on Ducati, sorry Casey, lol.
By the time PI comes around Rossi's Yamaha would have developed enough during the season to beat Casey at PI anyway.
COME ON TOSELAND,TOP 8 WITH A COUPLE OF PODIUMS.

Anybody here knows who the Yamaha test riders are ?
Their lap times are referred to as 'bike T' and 'bike P' but I can't figure out what these letters stand for: is it connected to the name of the rider, or to any spec of the bike...?

Oops! just checked out motogp.com and it appears the Yamaha test riders were as usual veterans Wataru Yoshikawa and Toshihiko Fujiwara...

Just so long as it's better than last season. Not knocking Stoner or Ducati as they were out of this world but i'd like to see some proper scrapping again. Failing that i'll get my fill in WSBK and Supersport 600's with the axe murderers ;)

Well done Rossi. Doesn't give up. And don't give up. We all know you will the Championship again. Call me superstitious but I find Rossi doing well when he is wearing his Flourescent Yellow Leathers like in the picture below
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Motogp_rossi_300.jpg

Somehow I can always imagine rossi winning with his arms up in yellow leathers. I wish he will switch back to his former brilliant colors and winning ways.

Is it just me, or do those bikes get smaller and smaller. On some of the pictures, Rossi looks to big for the bike. How the heck can he duck in behind the fairing?

I think this is a major problem for some of the taller riders either in the paddock or moving up the ranks. To fit the bikes now you have to be a little stunted like Pedrosa and Stoner. Hey we could use this as another excuse for Rossi ;).

If you take Leon Camier for example (BSB). I think he is a natural talent with a great attitude but he is about 6'3' (about 193cm) tall. There is no way he could fit into a current motogp bike. Will he be eternally a superbike rider?

I agree JH, with the old 990 it did not seem to be a problem as they had enough HP. May be an advantage on twisty tracks where the extra leverage could be a benefit.
Does that mean in the future, new riders are introduced into MotoGP based on there physical properties and PC knowledge rather than talent?

(just kidding.....)

What do you think the Rossi haters are going to say when they see that time set. Think they'll say Stoner would be faster and have his TC turn off too' I was abit concern about Rossi on these QU tyres but looks like he sorted that one out A

Hi All,
yes the time set today is very good, there is more to come from the engine performance too.

Morgue, we was talking about electronics & engine management & the crucial fuel management problem of last year.

Rossi has commented today that that now looks as if it's finaly been sorted but also hinted there is a little more power & elctronic upgrades to come out of Japan.

This bodes well & let's not forget that the bike will get even better with more data & the more he get's used to the Bridgestone tyres the more the times will come tumbling down.

He also commented he has hardly touched the selection of bridgestone tyres available to him.

Both Sbk and Gp looks great.!!!

looks like the yammies and hondas are catching up fast(most of their riders seem competitive)although all the other ducatis do not seem so fast... - ps:would love to see the greenies do the same soon?

Thanks Nigel

Yeah I hope they got is sorted because there's nothing more silly than being left without juice before race end.
Did you know they also switched to their own oil brand (Yamalube) as of this year?
Keep it up!

Yea Morgue I did as I'm a member of Insider at Yamaha so get the mag & also visit the site regulary to see if there's owt new to read about my favourite sport and of course Valentino.

I will have a look at that Oil as I own a Subaru impreza 2.0 STi but a 450bhp modded version which I use Silkolene fully synthetic engine oil in & it get's a oil change every 5k to keep it in nice running order, those engines like the oil to be changed & need a fully synthetic oil to take the pasting it gets.

Anyway back to Motogp and I think me & you were spot on with this earlier on when we was talking about this power problem with Yamaha, I suspect that the power is now there & the managements there too!

JH..You mention taller riders. I am not from a biking background however find MotoGP far more exciting than F1. Can somebody tell me how a higher centre of gravity affects bike handling on a grippy track. I know with a go kart a higher centre of gravity will produce more grip up to the point of the kart starting to bounce. Is chatter on a bike the same where a high level of grip is overcome by a high centre of gravity causing the tyres to bounce and loose contact with the track? If the principles are the same bikes with a high CG should also be good in the wet. I note Suzuki and Kawasaki have high CGs. Good in the wet and ordinary in the dry over longer distances?

 5 people disagree.

On a bike you want the centre of gravity to be low because you have to flick them from side to side. The further away from the pivot point (tyre road contact patch) the CG gets is, the more force is needed.
You can notice it on a road bike with a large fuel tank, the difference between full or empty is enormous, one of the reasons why the MotoGP bikes have theirs mounted low (under the 'saddle')
You could argue that a heavy rider is a disatvantage so high up on the bike but he needs his mass/strenght to make the bike change direction. A motorcycle is very stable hen moving, the gyroscopic force of the rotating parts wants to make it go on in a straight line. The rider transfers hisbodyweight
