Former - and perhaps future - grand prix rider Chaz Davies looks to have become the first ever British rider to win the prestigious Daytona 200 AMA race after Josh Hayes, who crossed the line first, was disqualified for illegal crankshaft modifications.
What an encouraging start to the season. Chaz wins Daytona. JT almost on pole. Smith is on pole, with the other lads well up there. Craig Jones looking good in WSS.
Just goes to show - when the Brits get the kit, they can do the business. Let's hope factories open their eyes and stop just giving preference to Spanish, Italian & Australian riders.

If Hayes entered a litre bike in a 600 race disqualification's a no brainer. So what's to argue? The principle's the same, the rest's detail.
Win the title, defend it, then WSBK, then MotoGP again.

Congratulations Chaz - a well deservered win!
Hopefully this good fortune will continue for the British riders racing in Doha tonight!
I personally would like to hear the National Anthem played tonight as Chaz wouldn't have heard it after his race.

Fingers crossed for Chaz that the Honda appeal fails! I'm sure he'd love to have won on the track but if lady luck shines, take it! Shame for Hodgson because, apart from one grass excursion he rode great! Also, NOBODY & I MEAN NOBODY, not even on the race commentary mentioned the name RICHARD COOPER! Riding a BMW he finished 6th! Now could be 5th! Some people just get no recognition if the face doesn't fit. 5 laps to go we had 4 brits in the top 10 (Rob Frost ended 14th). This has been a crazy & brilliant weekend so far for the brits, lets hope the 125 boys & JT can really put the icing on the cake!

This is fantastic news! At last we get to see British riders winning away from home on decent bikes! Glory be! It's such a refreshing change after years of guys not getting fatory machines in the big classes and non-domestic series. I knew these guys were good enough, perhaps now the world will be able to notice that too.
Congratulations Chaz! You deserve some good results!
What's this? Daytona following rules?! AND allowing a Brit to win? Wow! I remember 1995 when Daytona officials brought out a safety car so Scott Russell could close back up on the leaders after an early crash and then looked the other way as Russell passed about half the field while the car was out, All to stop Carl Fogarty winning the race, Which he would have done easilly if the rules were followed, As far as i'm concerned Chaz is the second British winner.

Cheat to win? That's American Honda pal. Not Josh hayes. He is a stand up guy and people look up to him because he is so humble, having risen from the club ranks. Honda were humiliated last year by the two factory riders literally running out of fuel on the last laps and again this year by one failure or another.
I'm sure you are just happy for your riders, but don't jump to silly conclusions. DFH's comments are crap too, by the way.
Well done Chaz, Hodgson, and Cooper. Sorry for your bad luck Neil, but you rode like a champ till your bike left you hanging. then again in superbike. I don't know Cooper, but Neil and Chaz have a lot of American fans. A lot

Hayes rode a faultless race, and no one should take that away from the man.
If his team had an engine built that doesn't comply with the specs, then they let him down, the rules are there for everyone.

Dunno.... never been to the US.
But lets also remember that the Daytona 200 is a pale shadow of its heyday.
And jingoism sucks, whatever its source

If fan of the sport's right - and I'm provisionally prepared to believe he is - the proof will be in what Hayes does next.
If Honda did indeed 'doctor' any parts of his motor contrary to the rules. My money says Honda will bluster and argue the rules however clear are ambiguous and that whatever they did, minor or major, was permitted.
Hayes will then declare he has secured an assurance from Honda they will fully comply with all regs, allowing him to continue to ride for them with his apparent integrity intact. They'll have compromised him. I feel for the bloke, chances are he was unaware & didn't deserve it.
maybe i was a bit hasty with my comment dfh, but the rules were broke, but do look back at the history of motor sport and see how many british champions there has been, then tell me we can only win by default.

Those who have followed the the testing in December and the race qualifying will know that Chaz Davies was quickest in December and set his qualifying time for the race while out on his own, not using another rider in the draft.
If the crankshaft in the Erion Honda was modified in the manner described, it will have allowed higher safe RPM than stock. A feature vital when allowed and easily the reason for 3-4 tenths a lap.
When not allowed....is is cheating, plain and simple. Honda teams are not immune from cheating, let us remember Jenson Button's fuel delivery system on his F1 car a few seasons back.
Honda have appealed the Daytona decision. Now we have to wait.

Weel i feel sorry for Josh - he s, as it s been said a great rider who got everything he has through talent and effort. hats off to Chaz too, he deserves some success, and i dont think he will go gp for a while now - it s off to AMA sbk baby ...
Moot - Webb, Redding Bradl, De Rosa and Smith have cut their teeth in the spanish 125cc series. Look where they ended up today. It s the most competitive series that bring out the most competitive ridersm regardless of passport
