'Cold' Qatar won't surrender round one.

'Cold' Qatar won't surrender round one.

Despite facing pressure to move its night race to later in the year, in order to avoid the cold conditions experienced at the inaugural March 9 event, Qatar is refusing to surrender its place as the season-opening event on the MotoGP calendar.

the tyre companies will know to make different tyres for that event to cope with the cold, thats it.

Here's a radical suggestion to get round the problem of it being cold
at night. Let's install giant heaters around the track to heat the air
and keep the riders and spectators warm!!! No?

Of course the right thing to do would be to scrap this UTTER RUBBISH
and race it during the day like they do in WSBK! WTF is the point in
racing at night and then complaining because now it's too cold? Wasn't
the reason for doing this so they could race in a dustbowl and have cooler
weather? (and better? times for racing fans in TV land) Didn't bother me
watching 2 great WSBK races only a couple of weeks before...

Ditch the lights! Race during the day!

Why 15 deg is so low/cold? Doesn't it never get as "cold" in Europe
sometimes during the summer? can't it get as cold at Donington, specially if
it is rain? The MtoGP guys should be happy they don't have to
race up north here at Mo I Rana!! :-) Now we have -7 degrees and snow,
now that is something that should affect the tyre performance!

Brendan you got it spot on mate. Produce tyres that can cope with the conditions, you'd think they'd be happy developing tyres for that sort of temp, in the uk i'm constantly riding around at that or below that...as for the riders...scuse the pun but get a grip :P

Buelliful, nice idea but they just spent a huge amount of money on this, i know they are rolling in it out in the far east but can't see them ditching it just yet...seems they are water tight till 2016, long way off so looks like it's staying. Agree though re: WSBK, was on at a fine time....don't think Qatar is as good for the USA though?

Nobody goes to the Qatar race anyway. Why do they care when their race is. They should drop Qatar altogether anyway, it's a ridiculous track for motorcycles and there is zero audience.

You can't just "ditch" them as you say it, they've got a contract till 2016.

i ve been noticing. motogp & formula 1 are giving too much importance to the gulf countries now-a-days. i absolutely understand that they have a lot of money and oil to be major sponsors..
they ll soon start dictating terms and then point at the signatures below insane clauses.

Even more radical would be:
Ditch the lights, go back to daylight, but now cool the track and the riders with rain machines. No dust, the riders are cool, the race will be spectacular and the owners can be happy because they can spent a couple of million on wasting fresh drinking water that their "brothers" next door in Africa miss. Everyone happy.

Without even remembering times when the organizers of the German and/or Austrian GPs were removing snow from the track so the GP races could take place, I find this statement about Qatari night being too cold ridiculous indeed. As posted above, the race was moved to nighttime precisely to avoid the heat of the day!

All European domestic championships are beginning at the moment, with much colder conditions, and noone complains ; that's racing anyway: heat, cold, rain, whatever...

Now if MotoGP riders cannot cope with the weather, lets have the races all held indoor or even better, on PS3... At least GP racing would be less polluting

Ridiculous!

Moto gp is now more boring than F1...It´s too hot in katar...it´s too cold...we need to ruin the sport for the sake of the enviroment and then put enough lights up to see all the way from the middle east to russia...WTF Another F1 style dumb ass gimic, even Dovi admited it´s a lot harder to ride a 250 than a 800 so what´s the point and where´s the logic?WSBK is far more entertaining...

in my opinion it doesn't make much sense that Qatar hosts a night race considering that it's only 2 hours ahead of CET in the first place! I don't think it would be such a bad idea to start the MotoGP race in Qatar several hours before.
