Stoner: There was no reason for it.

Stoner: There was no reason for it.

Casey Stoner says he was as surprised as anyone when he lost the front of his Desmosedici at high-speed during Friday's second free practice session at Jerez.

5 people agree.  3 people disagree.

What? Stoner actually has to set up his bike before he races??
That supprises me, as according to quite a few who visit this site ALL the electronics do the work for him.
I thought if that was the case the Ducati mechanics would just plug the bike into a computer and tell Casey "Just hold on, the bike knows what do"

Its going to be a good close race, cant wait.

And this is exactly the case! As you heard him, neither him or the team knows why the GP08/#1 (This is the Robot identification number) knows why this prototype miss behaved! But like he said, nothing to worry, the cientists will plug it on to the computers and find out why the prototype missbehaved.

2 people agree.  4 people disagree.

All those people who thought the TC did everthing have been slammed by the man himself.

To think a computer program does everthing from select the suspension setting to where and how to overtake not to mention tyre selection......wake up people....your in Lorenzo Land and it's your nightmare.
Rossi might have a better chance than most to win in Jerez people but 1 to 3 wins wont get him a WC, Casey 8 to 11 wins will though

The Colonel/

High side during free practice session doesn't look good at all.
Whatever reason either the bike or the rider, it shows
sign of their weakness.

One big mistake might CS out of championship battle for 2008.
I hope he is in good shape until end of the season.

And CS hasn't got any "very good" base markers for the bike at this race track as he has never faired well here.

So I suspect he'll try to get a neutral bike where he can rise it without any nasty surprises for him.

Nabi..Agree the most important thing for CS and all other riders is to stay upright and injury free at this stage in the season. If that means less points this round then so be it. It is a long season and it looks like riders will be taking points off each other in a close series so any points gained at any round will be important.

Mike..The fact that adjustments to the front generated problems in the rear is encouraging in that they should now be able to find a balance which at the moment would be preferable to making the bike faster but unpredictable. It is only when you make adjustments and nothing happens that you really start to worry.

CA.....He finished 5th last season here and the only real difference this year is Jorge. I am sure he will do what needs to be done to finish in the points......I hope everybody makes it through this race safe and sound as it would be good to see a close season.

As said by a few earlier in the posts, I hope ALL riders start and finish the season without any major "offs".
And most of all, Stoner wins the championship, (even if its by 1 point)!!!!!!

Well its close right now as Casey only has 5 points over Lorenzo...could be the closest it will be all year.Though yes some good close battles will be good and there surely will be.Quite a few nice rivalries developing with the odd 1 or 2 more from somewhere no doubt.Jerez can not come soon enough..please hurry!

Just a general question regarding the equipment inventory most teams carry.

If a bike is dropped what is the usual level of damage other than peripheral or cosmetic. Of course there would be some "offs" where the bike becomes a bin job. Do teams usually fix a dropped bike immediately or revert to a spare?

If a bike has been into the kitty litter heavily would an engine be changed as a precaution in case debris has found it's way past the air filters.

How many spare complete bikes are teams allowed to use?

How many spare engines/transmissions does a team normally carry?

Just interested.

Apparently at least some of the teams have enough to build 4 straight bikes and possibly 6 depending on the damage to the others. This would only apply to the very top teams and this referred to HRC a few years back.

CA;what a great question it is the kinda question every one wants to ask but too afraid to,I doubt if any of the forum writers have been in the depths of a MotoGp pit.If it's any help in one race last year Vermeulen had bad handling race bike, the comment after the event was that the bike had a cracked chassis that xray failed to find before the race,it kinda gave me the idea that the bikes were xrayed between qualifying and race day I am not sure if he had crash during practice that caused it, and really I am not sure if the pits or service truck have xray machines,do my comments add to your confusion, sorryI am sure every rider would have their favourite bike although both set up the same
